It is beginning to look a lot like Christmas in Johns Creek. Or at least it will be in coming weeks as the community lights up with the magic of the season.
From lawn displays featuring Santas and Christmas trains to local events, ‘tis the season for all things festive. In the spirit of the holidays, here are two local favorite spots to enjoy holiday lights in Johns Creek.
Johns Creek Christmas Tree and Dreidel Lighting
“The jolly old elf himself, Santa Claus, makes an early appearance at this festive party highlighted by the traditional lighting of a giant dreidel and 30-foot Christmas tree at Newtown Park,” the Johns Creek web site reads. “Children can give Santa their holiday wish list and participate in a variety of kids’ activities throughout the event, which occurs from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 29 at Newton Park, 3150 Old Alabama Road.
The free event features hot chocolate, holiday treats, and live music, and is something Johns Creek Communications Manager Edie Damann said is a must-see for residents this holiday season.
“The family-focused event is a really fun way to kick off the holidays here in Johns Creek,” Damann said.
In addition to perfecting the art of the s’more at one of the s’more stations throughout the park, Damann said another beloved feature of the event is a visit from live reindeer.
Boxes for the “Toys for Tots” annual toy drive will be on hand to accept new, unwrapped toys or games, and guests are invited to sign the giant holiday cards designed by Johns Creek elementary school students for military personnel at our three Georgia veterans hospitals.
The cards will be available for signing at the tree lighting and City Hall through the first week of December.
“(This event) kind of shows why (Johns Creek) is such a fantastic place to live and raise a family because the city is so focused on providing events and activities for all to enjoy.”
Emory Johns Creek Hospital Night of Lights
Elsewhere in Johns Creek, the holiday season kicks off with the annual “Night of Lights” celebration on on Friday, Nov. 30.
From 6 to 8 p.m., the festive event will feature performances from local elementary school students, arts and crafts, pictures with Santa and a tree lighting ceremony, all in front of the hospital, 6325 Hospital Parkway.
Members of the Johns Creek Fire Department will be on hand selling dinner plates to benefit the Georgia Firefighters Burn Foundation, and Toys for Tots donations will be accepted at this event as well.
